The fundamentals of space- horizontal and vertical planes. After studying the architecture of an array of rooms in the UIC architecture building, as well as the various stair types, the studio focused on both the connections on the x and y axis, leaving the designing to the z.
FLOORS, STAIRS, COLUMNS.
Horizontal Things embraced the vertical to create a program less, site less, space dedicated to the experience of space. A circuluar exterior staircase wraps a singular hanging floor, pushing the boundaries to create an visual continuity to the path less taken- in the case of this prokect, the only path avaliable. Once atop the structure, a single piercing funnels the occupant into the space in which the floors revolve, starting again the opposing journey outward.
